The number of employers choosing to implement fully remote or hybrid work plans has skyrocketed in recent years. For organizations that equip remote users with virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), it can be challenging to find the right balance between maximizing end-user experience and minimizing hardware and power costs in their data centers. A strong VDI host server solution will support a high number of demanding VDI sessions, deliver a responsive end-user experience, and maintain power efficiency during peak loads.
We used the industry-standard Login Enterprise benchmark to evaluate the VDI capabilities of Dell PowerEdge R660xs servers powered by Intel Xeon Gold 6448Y processors. In our tests, the R660xs server solution supported 290 VDI sessions while running the benchmark’s Knowledge Worker workload, consumed only 2.46 watts per session, and delivered a better-than-average end-user experience. These results show that Dell PowerEdge R660xs servers powered by 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors can provide VDI administrators with a good balance of VDI density, performance and responsiveness for end users, and cost-saving power efficiency.
