For today’s highly mobile workforce, the demand for productivity and effective collaboration remains the same even though individual work environments frequently change. Critical business can happen in an airplane, commuter train, or carpool lane, but for mobile workers to make the most of every opportunity, they require gear that can deliver high performance when and where they need it. In a mobile context, powerful laptops are of limited use when they significantly throttle performance in exchange for battery life, or they’re too hot and noisy for workers to comfortably use in ad hoc settings. A great mobile workstation should provide a strong blend of consistent performance, battery life, and personal comfort.
We used industry-standard benchmarks to provide real-world battery life estimates and document the difference between plugged-in and unplugged system performance of two notebooks: an HP EliteBook 645 G10 Notebook PC powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 7730U processor and a Dell Latitude 5440 laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-1355U processor. In our tests, when going from plugged-in to unplugged, the EliteBook 645 G10 delivered more consistent performance than the Latitude 5440. Further, our battery life tests indicated that the EliteBook could deliver longer battery life while still achieving strong performance.
We also hand-measured how hot and loud each system became while running a CPU-intensive workload. During our tests, the underside of the EliteBook ran 18°F cooler and was noticeably quieter than the Latitude laptop. When factoring in the longer battery life, more consistent unplugged performance, cooler temperatures, and lower system noise of the EliteBook in this comparison, the HP EliteBook 645 G10 proved to be a better overall fit for mobile productivity than the Dell Latitude 5440 laptop.
