Organizations require fast data analysis to keep their operations up and running and make informed decisions quickly. Many rely on big data analysis through running Apache Hadoop workloads. For those organizations, choosing a computing solution that can quickly deliver analytics from very large quantities of data is paramount.
We used the TeraSort benchmark to measure and compare the Apache Hadoop performance of computing solutions in two studies. In one study, we compared a Dell PowerEdge R750 server with a Dell PERC 11 RAID controller to an HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 server with HPE Smart Array P440ar Controller. In another study, we tested a Dell PowerEdge R750 server with a Dell PERC 11 RAID controller versus a previous generation Dell PowerEdge R740 server with a PERC 10 RAID controller. In both studies, the PowerEdge R750 server featuring the Dell PERC 11 RAID controller offered stronger performance, finishing the workload faster and with higher throughput.
